On Monday, May 13 Theatre Communications Group (TCG), the national organization for Theatre honored Ruth and Stephen Hendel and Ming Cho Lee at their Gala Evening. The evening was held at the Angel Orensanz Foundation (172 Norfolk Street) in New York City, cocktails started at 6pm and dinner started at 7pm. Jessica Hecht was the emcee of the evening; the Gala co-chairs were playwright Lydia R. Diamond and interior designer Jasmine M. Keller. The Gala honorary chairs were Anne Kaufman, Obie award-winning director; Nelle Nugent, Broadway producer; Judith O. Rubin, chairman of the board of Playwrights Horizons; and Liz Smith, gossip columnist. The event hosted 200 guests and surpassed its financial goal. Scroll down for photos from the gala! (more...)

Eugene O'Neill Theater Center Honors Christopher Plummer at 2013 Gala Tonight

The Eugene O'Neill Theater Center is set to honor Christopher Plummer at a gala event tonight, April 15th in New York City. The 13th Annual Monte Cristo Award will be presented to Mr. Plummer by fellow stage and film legend Kevin Spacey. Mr. Spacey was the recipient of the Monte Cristo Award in 2009. Red carpet and cocktails begin at 6:30pm at the Edison Ballroom on West 47th Street, followed by dinner, and a program celebrating the honoree. (more...)

John McDaniel Named Artistic Director of the O'Neill's Cabaret & Performance Conference

The Eugene O'Neill Theater Center today announced the appointment of Grammy and two-time Emmy Award winner John McDaniel as Artistic Director of the Cabaret & Performance Conference, its third, which will take place July 31 - August 10, 2013. The Conference focuses on developing new artists and forms for cabaret theater, and closes the O'Neill professional summer season of new work annually. (more...)

Michael Bush Departs the O'Neill Center

The Eugene O'Neill Theater Center and Michael Bush jointly announced today that, after eight years, Mr. Bush is moving on from his position as the artistic director of the O'Neill's Cabaret & Performance Conference due to increased professional obligations directing in New York and regionally. These obligations include the further development of the new musicals STORMY WEATHER, THE PIPER, and his recently acclaimed NYMF production of HIMSELF AND NORA. He will also be a founding partner in a new company, Tritone Productions, which is dedicated to the development of new work. (more...)

National Theatre of the Deaf Announces Move to Eugene O'Neill's Monte Cristo

Betty Beekman, Interim Executive Director announced today that the company is returning to the Eugene O'Neill Theatre Center and will retain an office in the historic Monte Cristo Cottage in New London, Connecticut. The company will continue to operate the Little Theatre of the Deaf in West Hartford. (more...)

Michael Douglas to Receive 2012 Monte Cristo Award

The Eugene O'Neill Theater Center will present its 12th annual Monte Cristo Award to legendary film actor and O'Neill alum Michael Douglas in recognition of his monumental achievements and contributions to the American and international theater community. Mr. Douglas embodies the "pioneering spirit, unceasing artistic commitment, and excellence" of America's only Nobel Prize winning playwright Eugene O'Neill. The award will be presented to Mr. Douglas by his wife, Catherine Zeta Jones, at a gala dinner held in his honor at the Edison Ballroom in New York City on Monday, April 16th at 6:30pm. (more...)
