Four renowned achievers will be honored for their lifetime accomplishments with the 34th Annual Common Wealth Awards of Distinguished Service. The awards recognize individuals who have enriched modern society in a range of human endeavors. The 2013 Common Wealth Award winners are: Alan Alda, celebrated actor, director and screenwriter, for Dramatic Arts; David McCullough, preeminent author and historian, for Literature; Jane Pauley, leading broadcast journalist, Today Show contributor and author, for Mass Communications; Martin Sheen, film legend, social activist and humanitarian, for Public Service. The frontwoman for Adelaide cover band Chunky Custard and former Formula One Grid Girl Becky Blake is back for the 2013 Fringe with two shows; her acclaimed Piano Chicks (a sellout in 2012) will return to The Promethean, 116 Grote Street Adelaide for three performances only tonight, 2, 10 and 12 March. The critically acclaimed 'Muscle Shoals' documentary that captivated audiences at the Sundance Film Festival will be screened for its home audience Feb. 27 and March 1, at 7 each evening, as part of the George Lindsey UNA Film Festival. ustralian choreographer Meryl Tankard returns to New York with one of her most gripping works to date. The Oracle is set to Stravinsky's seminal composition for the infamous 1913 ballet The Rite of Spring, which caused riots at its Paris premiere. The Oracleexplores the conflicting forces of nature and man, masculinity and femininity, violence and nurturing, strength and vulnerability. An intense solo for virtuosic performer Paul White, one of Australia's greatest dancers and incoming member of Pina Bausch's Tanztheater Wuppertal, The Oracle includes haunting visual and set designer by Régis Lansac. The U.S. premiere will take place on February 5 at 7:30pm at the McCarter Theatre in Princeton, NJ, as part of a seven-city U.S. tour. (more...)

Zac Brown, Elton John & More Will Perform Levon Helm Tribute at the GRAMMY Awards by BWW News Desk - Feb 06, 2013
Nominees Zac Brown, Brittany Howard (Alabama Shakes), and Mumford & Sons, along with five-time GRAMMY winner, GRAMMY Legend Award recipient, and 2000 MusiCares Person of the Year honoree Elton John and GRAMMY winner and Recording Academy Lifetime Achievement Award recipient (as a member of the Staples Singers) Mavis Staples will join together for a special tribute to the late Levon Helm as part of the annual In Memoriam segment on the 55th Annual GRAMMY Awards telecast. Current nominee T Bone Burnett will serve as musical director for this special tribute to Helm. Additionally, current nominees Miguel and Wiz Khalifa also are set to perform on Music's Biggest Night. Thirteen-time GRAMMY winner Dave Grohl, three-time GRAMMY winner and current nominee Ne-Yo, and TV and radio host/producer (and newly appointed Honorary Chair of the GRAMMY Foundation Board) Ryan Seacrest will appear as presenters. Louisville Master Chorale Presents Handel's MESSIAH Tonight by BWW News Desk - Dec 16, 2012
The Louisville Master Chorale has announced a holiday program featuring all three parts of Handel's magnificent oratorio, MESSIAH. It will include the favorite choruses and solos from Parts I and II (The Christmas and Easter sections) as well as the apocalyptic Part III in its entirety. Though it is not possible to encompass the entire work in a two-hour program, Mark Walker, conductor and artistic director, has taken a discerning and satisfying approach. (more...)
