The Royal Society of Literature (RSL), the voice for the value of literature in the UK, has unveiled plans for Dalloway Day 2023 – an annual celebration of the work and legacy of Virginia Woolf which takes place each year on 'a Wednesday in mid-June'. 

BLUE was Derek Jarman's final film. Completed in May 1993, just months before his death, it is his testament. For 74 minutes, an unchanging screen of celestial blue is accompanied by voices which deliver a collage of fragments from Jarman's diary, describing the gradual onset of blindness as he battles with HIV. As his daily life is stripped away, only the essentials remain.

Michael Grandage directs Emma Corrin in Neil Bartlett’s joyous new adaptation of Virginia Woolf’s modern masterpiece – Orlando. Leading an eleven-strong company in a bold new staging, Olivier Award nominee Emma Corrin returns to London’s West End in one of the most surprising stories in the English language.

On the surface it might seem impossible to adapt Orlando for the stage, but Neil Bartlett and director Michael Grandage have achieved a warm and witty play that is also a welcome antidote to today's culture wars.

The holiday season often brings about classic Christmas stories being retold and Charles Dickens' A CHRISTMAS CAROL is usually number one on most producer's short list. Instead, Buffalo's Irish Classical Theatre Company is presenting  Dickens' GREAT EXPECTATIONS in a newer version by Neil Bartlett. And while the brief  Christmas theme is glossed over, the familiar characters still are ripe for this creative theatrical evening.

Adapted by Neil Bartlett, starring Golden Globe winner Emma Corrin and directed by Tony and Olivier winner Michael Grandage, the early-awaited stage version of Orlando is about to start previews. BroadwayWorld caught up with Neil ahead of opening night on 5 December to talk about the writing process, gender identity and the magic of language.
