Feeling nostalgic for the 1980s? The North Shore Music Theatre reminds us what office life was like back then in '9 to 5: The Musical,' based on the film and the Dolly Parton hit song. The production is acted and staged extremely well, but the songs are forgettable and the book is tough to swallow in our era of cynicism. (more...)

Dee Hoty Replaces Lucie Arnaz in NSMT's 9 TO 5

The award-winning North Shore Theatre (NSMT) is pleased to welcome Broadway star Dee Hoty to the cast of 9 TO 5: THE MUSICAL. Due to a severe back injury (annular tear of the L5 disc), the previously announced Lucie Arnaz will be unable to play the role of Violet in 9 TO 5: THE MUSICAL scheduled to open Tuesday, September 25, and play through Sunday, October 7. Press night is scheduled for September 26 at 7:30pm.

Breaking: Raven-Symoné to Take Over for Patina Miller in SISTER ACT?

Deadline.com is reporting that Raven-Symoné, known most for starring on the Disney Channel's THATS SO RAVEN will take over for the Tony and Olivier nominated Patina Miller in Broadway's SISTER ACT. The web site reports that she will begin rehearsals at the end of February, and will debut at the end of March 2012 for a 6 month engagement in the show.

SISTER ACT To Add Weekday Matinees This Spring

This winter, from January 2, 2012 through March 4, 2012, SISTER ACT will be performed on the following schedule: Monday at 7pm, Tuesday at 7pm, Wednesday at 2pm and 8pm, Friday at 8pm, Saturday at 2pm and 8pm, and Sunday at 3pm.
Beginning March 5, 2012, the performance schedule will be as follows: Tuesday at 7pm, Wednesday at 2pm and 8pm, Thursday at 8pm, Friday at 8pm, Saturday at 2pm and 8pm, and Sunday at 3pm.

Raise Your Voice! Carolee Carmello Replaces Victoria Clark in SISTER ACT as 'Mother Superior' 11/19

Tony Award nominee Carolee Carmello will assume the role of Mother Superior in the Broadway musical SISTER ACT, beginning performances on Saturday, November 19 at 8:00pm. SISTER ACT is currently in its eighth smash month at the Broadway Theatre (1681 Broadway). Ms. Carmello takes over from Victoria Clark, who originated the role on Broadway and received a Tony Award nomination for her performance. (more...)

This summer, BroadwayWorld.com introduced it's first, exclusive, fully scripted program series - SUBMISSIONS ONLY, created, written, and directed by Kate Wetherhead and Andrew Keenan-Bolger. The pair also stars in the series, which enjoyed an extremely successful Season 1 on YouTube and was streamed throughout the summer on BroadwayWorld.com in anticipation of SUBMISSIONS ONLY's second season, which will now be broadcast EXCLUSIVELY on BroadwayWorld.
BroadwayWorld was, of course, on hand for the SUBMISSIONS ONLY Season 2 launch party on Monday, September 26 and we bring you photo coverage below! The first episode of the new season will premiere to the public on BWW on Friday, September 30. (more...)

'Tis the season again. Well, almost. The 2011 edition of the annual Carols for a Cure album is now in the works. Purchase of the album benefits Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. The album is produced by Rock-it Science Records. RSR's popular series Broadway's Carols for a Cure is currently in its twelfth year. This highly anticipated annual holiday release features casts from the current Broadway line-up of shows performing new and traditional holiday music. Broadway's Carols for a Cure offers a 'snapshot' of each season, as the casts and orchestras from each show on Broadway perform their own holiday track. Since 1999, Broadway's Carols for a Cure has featured the creative talents of thousands of Broadway's brightest stars and has raised over $3 million for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. (more...)
