American Repertory Ballet Announces Spring 2014 Season

American Repertory Ballet will present revivals and world premieres at venues across the state - from Mahwah to Princeton - February through May, 2014. The spring season features two performances of Artistic Director Douglas Martin's acclaimed Romeo and Juliet, the world premiere of Douglas Martin's Firebird and the company premiere of Kirk Peterson's Afternoon of a Faun at McCarter Theatre, a world premiere choreographed by former Joffrey Ballet star Trinette Singleton, and American Repertory Ballet's Diamond Gala - celebrating 60 years since the founding of the organization in 1954.

The Hartt School's ambitious and exhilarating production of Petrushka re-envisions the iconic Ballets Russes work by Igor Stravinsky and Alexandre Benois by remaining true to the spirit of collaboration between multiple art forms, a guiding vision of both the Diaghilev company and The Hartt School. . Premiering in Paris 1n 1911, the ballet tells the story of the hapless puppet, Petrushka, and his struggle to claim his own humanity. Created on Vaslav Nijinsky as the vulnerable subject of the manipulative Charlatan's abuse, the title role and the ballet became strongly identified with the world famous dancer, his tortured relationship with the impresario Serge Diaghilev, and his subsequent descent into madness.

The Hartt School presents Hartt Dances, featuring Petrushka, a collaboration of the Dance Division and Hartt Orchestra, Friday, November 22, and Saturday, November 23, at 7:30 PM; and Sunday, November 24, at 2:00 PM, in Lincoln Theater. Hartt's fall mainstage dance concert highlights Stephen Pier's contemporary restaging of Petrushka, features the Brandenburg Concerto No. 4 in G major, BWV 1049, with choreography by Doris Humphrey; Jose Limon's Symphony for Strings, to the music of William Schuman; and a new creation by Katie Stevinson-Nollet, set to the work of Stephen Montague. A full orchestra, under the direction of Maestro Edward Cumming, accompanies the entire concert. Admission is $20, with discounts for seniors, students, and groups of 10 or more. TOP HAT at the Aldwych Theatre, and will close today, October 26, to make room for Andrew Lloyd Webber's new STEPHEN WARD musical, which is set to open in November 2013. Thare are plans for a UK tour in 2014-15.

Hartt School Opens Applications for 2013-14 Young Composers Project; Deadline 10/25

The Hartt School Community Division (HCD) announces that applications are now available for the 2013-2014 Young Composer's Project (YCP). Musicians in grades 7 through 12 who compose or are interested in composition are invited to apply. This after-school program meets once a week from November to May. The Dance Division of the University of Hartford's The Hartt School presents Interface, a senior dance composition production featuring works choreographed by Tessa Crawford, Lauren Curley, Rebecca DeNies, Meghan Dodd, and Haruka Tamura, and danced by the Division's talented student body. Performances are Friday, November 1, at 7:30 PM; and Saturday November 2, at 2:00 PM and 7:30 PM, at the Edward C. and Ann T.
