MAMMA ROMA to Conclude Cherry Lane Theatre's MENTOR PROJECT 2012

A new play about the late Italian actress Anna Magnani, MAMMA ROMA -- written and performed by Anne DeSalvo, winner of the Obie Award for her performance in GEMINI -- will be presented by Cherry Lane Theatre's MENTOR PROJECT from April 3 to 14 at Cherry Lane Studio Theatre (38 Commerce St.) in Manhattan. MAMMA ROMA is directed by Rob Urbinati. David Rambo (THE LADY WITH ALL THE ANSWERS) has been Ms. DeSalvo's mentor for the play. ( more...)

Cherry Lane Theatre's award-winning MENTOR PROJECT will continue its 13th season with a production of EVOLUTION, written and performed by Patricia Buckley, directed Michele Chivu and mentored Jean-Claude van Itallie with performances scheduled March 13 through March 24 at Cherry Lane Studio Theatre (38 Commerce Street in Manhattan), where the 2012 MENTOR PROJECT is in residence through April 14. "Who would have thought that a young boy from Weymouth would become part of such a large family of vagabonds," remarked Hal Holbrook about the actors and industry professionals that gathered to honor him at the 15th annual TONY Award party in Los Angeles. "Not all of us have been lucky enough to make a steady income from this profession we love so much. It's nice to know an organization such as the Actors Fund exists to watch our backs, while we concentrate on using our craft to make the world a richer place to live," added Holbrook just after friend and colleague, Sean Penn, presented the accomplished thespian with the Julie Harris Award. Penn, who directed Holbrook in "Into The Wild," said "Hal always got it in the first take, but you wanted him to do it again, just so you could watch him work." ( more...)
