In honor of its 60th anniversary, a new restored and remastered edition of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s The Sound of Music will debut on 4K Ultra HD on September 23.

Rodgers & Hammerstein’s cinematic treasure The Sound of Music will be broadcast on ABC on Sunday, December 15, 2024, at 7/6c. The musical’s official social media pages will host a live watch party during the airing on December 15.

In honor of the 60th anniversary of the Sound of Music, Saltzburg, Vienna, is gearing up to host a large celebration including musical acts, a gala dinner with the Von Trapp family, and more, according to NPR. Find out what's planned and how to get in on the celebration.

Celebrate the Oscar®-winning classic by singing along to popular favorites such as “Edelweiss,” ”My Favorite Things,” “Climb Every Mountain,” “Do-Re-Mi,” “Sixteen Going On Seventeen,” “The Lonely Goatherd” and of course, “The Sound of Music.”

This holiday season, the Utah Symphony presents a jam-packed program that will entertain kids of all ages from one to 92. Between the magnificence of a 2,000-voice audience sing-a-long with Handel's "Messiah," to show stoppers Celtic Woman and Portland's "Little Orchestra," Pink Martini, with guests vocalists The von Trapps and NPR's Ari Shapiro, there is something to dazzle everyone this Christmas season. Pink Martini, a McCallum favorite returns for eight great shows Friday, February 9, through Thursday, February 15. In 1994 in his hometown of Portland, Thomas Lauderdale was working in politics, with the intention of eventually running for office. Like other eager politicians-in-training, he went to every political fundraiser under the sun, but was dismayed to find the music at these events underwhelming, lackluster, loud and un-neighborly. Drawing inspiration from music from all over the world, crossing genres of classical, jazz and old-fashioned pop, and hoping to appeal to conservatives and liberals alike, he founded the "little orchestra" Pink Martini in 1994 to provide beautiful and inclusive musical for political fundraisers for progressive causes such as civil rights, the environment and affordable housing.

Variety reports that actress Heather Menzies-Urich, known for portraying Louisa von Trapp in the 1965 film The Sound of Music, died at age 68 following a recent diagnosis with cancer. Her son Ryan Urich said that his mother died on Christmas Eve, surrounded by her family.

Playing the oldest Von Trapp daughter, Liesl, is Paige Silvester. The role was made famous by the recently deceased Charmain Carr (may she rest in peace) in the 1965 film by the same name. Silvester hails from Sacramento, California; earned her BFA in Musical Theatre from the University of Michigan; is no stranger to the stage; and writes a really fun blog. She grew up dancing, singing, and acting, and has performed The Muny, Sacramento Music Circus, and was most recently seen in the ensemble of the Broadway 1st National Tour of EVITA.
