Colin Donnell

Colin Donnell began his stage career with productions including Miss Saigon (2001) at The Muny and the U.S. national tour of Mamma Mia! (2003). His other early theater credits included Almost Heaven and Mame (2005), Jesus Christ Superstar and Meet Me in St. Louis (2006), and Follies (2007) at New York City Center's Encores! He made his Broadway debut as Hank Mejewski in Jersey Boys (2007), later serving as an understudy for Bob and Nick. His subsequent stage credits included Me, Myself and I and High School Musical (2008), in which he played Troy Bolton, and Fiddler on the Roof (2008), in which he played Perchik.

From 2009 to 2010, Donnell played Fiyero in the second national tour of Wicked. In 2010, he portrayed Johnny O'Brian in Johnny Baseball at the American Repertory Theater. He played Billy Crocker in the Broadway revival of Anything Goes from 2011 to 2012, earning nominations for a Drama Desk Award, an Outer Critics Circle Award and an Astaire Award. In 2012, he portrayed Franklin Shepard in Merrily We Roll Along at New York City Center's Encores! In 2013, he played Berowne in the Shakespeare musical adaptation of Love's Labour's Lost at the Delacorte Theater. His 2014 stage credits included Monty in Violet on Broadway, alongside Sutton Foster and Joshua Henry. In 2015, he appeared as Jack Robinson in Lady, Be Good at New York City Center's Encores! and as Jim Hardy in Holiday Inn at The Muny.

Donnell made his television debut as Mike Ruskin in Pan Am (2011–2012). In 2012, he was cast as Tommy Merlyn in The CW series Arrow, appearing as a main cast member in the first season and returning as a guest in later seasons, including the eighth and final season. His other television credits in 2014 included Person of Interest, Unforgettable and The Mysteries of Laura. From 2014 to 2015, he played Scott Lockhart in the Showtime drama series The Affair. In 2015, he starred as Sean in Love Is a Four Letter Word, an NBC pilot that was not picked up to series.

Donnell joined the cast of Chicago Med in 2015 as Dr. Connor Rhodes, appearing as a main cast member through the show's fifth season before departing in 2019. He also guest-starred in Chicago Fire and Chicago P.D. from 2016 to 2019. His additional television credits include Love on Iceland (2020), To Catch a Spy (2021), Irreverent (2022), FBI: International (2024), in which he played Brian Lange in two episodes, and Zero Day (2025). He returned to Chicago Med as a guest in its 12th season, scheduled for 2026–2027.

Donnell's film credits include Every Secret Thing (2014), in which he played Paul Porter, and Almost Love (2019), in which he played Henry. He also appeared in the 2018 Encores! Off-Center production of Songs for a New World at New York City Center. In 2019, he played Russell Hammond in Almost Famous at the Old Globe Theatre. In 2022, he and Patti Murin released the album Something Stupid through Broadway Records, featuring pop, Broadway and Disney songs. In 2023, he appeared as Roy Scheider in the Broadway production of The Shark Is Broken.

In November 2024, Donnell portrayed the Father in New York City Center's Encores! production of Ragtime, alongside Joshua Henry, Caissie Levy and Brandon Uranowitz. He reprised the role in the production's Broadway transfer in 2025.
