BIO
Tom Sturridge began his screen career as a child actor, appearing in the television miniseries Gulliver's Travels (1996) and the film FairyTale: A True Story (1997). He returned to film in 2004 with roles in Vanity Fair and Being Julia, and appeared as William Herbert in the television film A Waste of Shame (2004). He followed with performances in Brothers of the Head (2005) and Like Minds (2006), also known as Murderous Intent.
Sturridge gained wider recognition with his role as Carl in The Boat That Rocked (2009), released in the United States as Pirate Radio. He subsequently starred in Waiting for Forever (2010), Junkhearts (2011), and portrayed Carlo Marx in Walter Salles’s adaptation of On the Road (2012). His later film credits include Effie Gray (2014), Far from the Madding Crowd (2015), Remainder (2015), Song to Song (2017), Mary Shelley (2017), Journey’s End (2017), Double Date (2017), Three Way Junction (2018), Velvet Buzzsaw (2019), Widow Clicquot (2023), The Chronology of Water (2025), The Wizard of the Kremlin (2025), and The Man I Love (2026). He also appeared in the short films Hello Apartment (2018) and Skin (2019). His upcoming projects include The Revisionist.
On television, Sturridge portrayed Henry VI in The Hollow Crown (2016), starred as Jake in Sweetbitter (2018–2019), appeared in Irma Vep (2022), and achieved international recognition as Dream of the Endless/Lord Morpheus in Netflix’s The Sandman (2022–2025).
Sturridge made his stage debut in Simon Stephens’s Punk Rock at the Lyric Hammersmith in 2010, earning the Critics’ Circle Theatre Award for Most Promising Newcomer and a nomination for the Evening Standard Theatre Award for Most Outstanding Newcomer. His subsequent theatre credits include Wastwater (2011), No Quarter (2013), The Trial (2015), and American Buffalo (2015).
In 2013, he made his Broadway debut as Phillip in Orphans, receiving a Tony Award nomination for Best Leading Actor in a Play. He later starred as Winston Smith in the Broadway production of 1984 (2017) and appeared opposite Jake Gyllenhaal in Sea Wall/A Life (2019), earning a second Tony Award nomination for Best Leading Actor in a Play. In 2025–2026, he starred as Mat Burke in Anna Christie at St. Ann’s Warehouse.
