Review Roundup: THE WITCHES Opens at The National Theatre

Review: THE WITCHES, National Theatre

I'm sure there will be more than a few sighs of relief down the corridors of the National Theatre at the deservedly raptuous reception for The Witches, the latest attempt to bring a hit show to the stage at this lucrative time of year. 'We're not women, we're hell' is not a line you would expect at a family show, but Lyndsey Turner's production combines exuberant fun, quick-witted comedy and a positive attitude towards death to produce an entralling, clever and incredibly funny production.

BWW Review: BUT I'M A CHEERLEADER: THE MUSICAL, Turbine Theatre

But I’m A Cheerleader: The Musical has a long history; based on the 1999 cult film, the musical was first workshopped at the New York Musical Theatre Festival in 2005, where it picked up the Audience Award for Best New Musical. London got its first glimpse in 2019 at MTFestUK in a showcase for new musicals and it has now opened in a blaze of bubblegum pink at Battersea’s Turbine Theatre.

Wake Up With BWW 2/1: Josh Groban Tour, THE LAST UNICORN Musical, and More!

Today's top stories include a new rule for critics being invited to The Music Man. Breaking from the Broadway tradition, the musical has invited critics to its opening night performance rather than to previews. Josh Groban is going on tour this summer! Plus, a new stage musical adaptation of the book 'The Last Unicorn' is in the works with Fergie attached.

BUT I'M A CHEERLEADER: THE MUSICAL Sets Full Cast

Grabbing the pom-poms and playing the high school senior who just loves cheerleading, Megan Williams, will be Alice Croft. The rest of the cast is completed by Oliver Brooks (Dad/Larry), Edward Chitticks (Jared/Rock), Damon Gould (André), Tiffany Graves (Mary Brown), Jodie Jacobs (Mom/Lloyd), Lemuel Knights (Mike), Evie Rose Lane (Graham), Harry Singh (Jalal), Jodie Steele (Kimberly/Hilary), Aaron Teoh (Dolph) and Kia-Paris Walcott (Sinead).

Jack Butterworth, who dazzled as Bobby van Husen in ‘The Boy Friend’ at The Menier Chocolate Factory will star as Jerry Travers in ‘Top Hat’, The Mill at Sonning’s now legendary annual Christmas musical.

BWW Review: TOP HAT, The Mill At Sonning

Made famous by the 1935 film featuring the legendary Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, Top Hat is a nostalgic and light-hearted piece of escapism now playing at The Mill at Sonning. The story follows Jerry Travers, a Broadway star in his prime, who travels to England and falls for the society beauty Dale Tremont. Dale is not initially taken with him, but with a little charm, Jerry gets his girl. However, it is less than plain sailing after Dale mistakes him for Jerry's own manager Horace Hardwick, who is married to her friend, and subsequent mayhem ensues.

Final Casting Announced For TOP HAT at The Mill At Sonning

This 2011 musical based on the 1935 film of the same name, tells the story of Broadway sensation Jerry Travers who dances his way across Europe to win the heart of society girl Dale Tremont. With an uplifting and entertaining script, this show celebrates 1930s song, style and romance. Underpinning every scene are Irving Berlin's magnificent songs including ;Puttin' on the Ritz', 'Cheek to Cheek', 'Isn't This A Lovely Day', and of course, 'Top Hat, White Tie & Tails'

Photo Flash: First Look at THE BOYFRIEND at Menier Chocolate Factory

Sandy Wilson's all-singing all-dancing love letter to 1920s musical comedies returns for the first major London revival in over 10 years. Set in Madame Dubonnet's finishing school in the south of France, these perfect young ladies burst into song at the least provocation, and forbidden boy friends are forever popping through the French windows to sing and dance with them. Since its premiere in 1953, this light-hearted soufflé of a show has delighted audiences worldwide and has become one of the most well-loved British musicals of all time.

BWW Review: THE BOY FRIEND, Menier Chocolate Factory

How ripping! A saucy French maid doing the Charleston with a handsome chap in tennis whites sets the scene for the most delightful escapism in town: Matthew White's gossamer-light revival of Sandy Wilson's 1953 love letter to the Roaring Twenties. It was once the third-longest-running stage musical, and boosted Julie Andrews' career on Broadway.
