A slate of 4 vibrant and kinetic new LGBTQ+ plays and 1 musical have emerged as finalists in Pride Films and Plays' 2016 Great Gay Play and Musical Contest. They come from writers across the United States, and were selected by a reading team from across the country doing blind readings of the manuscripts. Those five scripts will be performed as Enhanced Staged Readings at the Center On Halsted's Hoover-Leppen, 3540 N Halsted, during Gay Play and Musical Weekend which is April 22 to 24, 2016. With the world premiere of Laughing Matters in the Goldstein Cabaret, FST officially embarks on the SARASOTA FESTIVAL OF NEW PLAYS. The festival is a dynamic event that gives continued life to the work of emerging playwrights, going beyond producing the world premiere. This year, FST produces the 20th annual festival. SARASOTA FESTIVAL OF NEW PLAYS attracted playwrights, actors, directors, and designers from around the country to produce the following components of the 2011 festival:

From the new city commission to the new roundabouts, there's always something happening in Sarasota that we can all collectively laugh at. The show will have preview performances on March 30 and 31, with opening night on Friday, April 1.

Florida Studio Theatre Opens a new installment of Laughing Matters on March 24, 2009. Laughing Matters has consistently remained the biggest hit in the Goldstein Cabaret! Laughing Matters Too broke all Cabaret attendance records in 2007 and returns with great enthusiasm in 2009! Parodying both local and national current issues, audiences can not only relate but find an escape with laughter!

The special benefit performance features musical selections POPE JOAN, PARADE, A MAN OF NO IMPORTANCE, DR. SEX, Q, KISS OF THE SPIDER WOMAN, JERRY SPRINGER ? THE OPERA, THE CHRISTMAS SCHOONER and THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME.
