2022 Driskell Prize Awarded To Art Historian Adrienne L. Childs


The High Museum of Art today announced scholar, art historian and curator Adrienne L. Childs as the 2022 recipient of the David C. Driskell Prize in recognition of her contributions to the field of African American art. Awarded annually by the Museum since 2005, the prize demonstrates the High's ongoing dedication to furthering artistic innovation and promoting research of African American artists and scholars.

Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art presents a multi-gallery survey show that captures the career arc and continued ascent of contemporary artist Beverly McIver. The exhibition “Beverly McIver: Full Circle” is on view from Feb. 12 to Sept. 4, 2022.

Initial casting is today announced for the world premiere of Dark Tourism at Park Theatre (PARK90), from 29th September - 24th October, the debut play by Daniel Dingsdale. Amongst the cast are Tamaryn Payne and Jill Winternitz. Directed by Adam Lenson, this brand new play is a biting cultural satire on media cynicism and the world of celebrity, where one can go from nothing to everything and back again in the space of a YouTube video. Press Night is Thursday 1st October, 7pm.

'Rice, Noodles and Glue' Wins National Portrait Gallery's 'Outwin Boochever Portrait Competition 2013 People's Choice'


The votes are in, the Smithsonian's National Portrait Gallery's “Outwin Boochever Portrait Competition 2013 People's Choice” award goes to Saeri Kiritani of Forest Hills, N.Y., who created “100 Pounds of Rice” a sculpture made from rice, rice noodles, Elmers Glue, epoxy glue, wood and metal sticks. The museum's blog is featuring each artist in the show, Kiritani was interviewed earlier this year and talks about her work in a post on the museum's blog face2face.si.edu.

National Portrait Gallery's People's Choice Award to be Announced 9/21


In March the Smithsonian's National Portrait Gallery announced that Bo Gehring of Beacon, N.Y., received first prize in the “Outwin Boochever Portrait Competition 2013” for a video titled “Jessica Wickham.” Now through Sept. 21, people all over the country and around the world can be a juror too by voting for their own favorites through a free mobile app (iOS and Android).
