As we approach the end of 2013, Broadwayworld Dance pays tribute to the many artists who enriched, inspired, and captivated us as dancers, teachers, musicians, painters, producers, photographers, writers, historians, and philanthropists.

There will be a memorial celebration for Paul Szilard (Dancer, Producer, Impresario and great friend to the arts) today, October 31st, 2013 at 1:30 pm at The Joyce Theater, 175 Eighth Avenue at 18th Street, NYC. There will be performances by the Martha Graham Dance Company, The Avlin Ailey American Dance Theater and Universal Ballet's Kirov Academy of Ballet; as well as reflections from some of his friends.

There will be a memorial celebration for Paul Szilard (Dancer, Producer, Impresario and a great friend to the arts) on Thursday, October 31st, 2013 at 1:30 pm at The Joyce Theater, 175 Eighth Avenue at 18th Street, NYC. Participants will be LaRue Allen, Executive Director, Martha Graham Dance Company; Adrienne Dellas, Director of the Universal Ballet's Kirov Academy of Ballet in Washington, D.C.; Calvin Hunt, Senior Director, Performance and Production, the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater; Judith Jamison, and Artistic Director Emerita, The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. There will be performances by members of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater performing 'Song for You' and an excerpt from 'Cry'; students from the senior division of the Kirov Academy of Ballet performing the Adagio and Coda from 'Sleeping Beauty'; and members of the Martha Graham Dance Company performing 'Ritual to the Sun' from Acts of Light. The public is invited.

Paul Szilard died peacefully at home on Friday, 26 July 2013, at the age of 100. He was born in Budapest, Hungary (August 24, 1912) and became a United States citizen in the 1950's. A former leading dancer, Paul Szilard has performed throughout the world with such famous dancers as Nora Kaye, Colette Marchand, Sonia Arova and others.

Martha Graham Dance Company will host its annual gala honoring Judith G. Schlosser, Chairman of the Board, and Herbert S. Schlosser. With choreography by Martha Graham and Richard Move, the evening will feature musical guest Deborah Harry with an introduction by Patricia Field.

Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, recognized by U.S. Congress as a vital American "Cultural Ambassador to the World," will return to Paris for Les Etes de la Danse 8th International Dance Festival from today, June 25th through July 21st at Theatre du Chatelet. The 32-performance engagement, supported by Bank of America Merrill Lynch, follows successful sold-out and extended festival appearances in 2009 and 2006. After an acclaimed 27-city North American Tour, Ailey's extraordinary dancers will move audiences in France in a series of 15 premieres, new productions and repertory favorites, sharing internationally the next era in Ailey history led by dynamic Artistic Director Robert Battle.

'Tanguera' The Tango Musical will play a special U.S. engagement at New York City Center, 131 West 55 Street (bet. 7 & 6 Aves). The new book musical will open on Tuesday, October 12, 2009 at 7:30 pm. Michael Brenner for BB Promotion GmbH and Paul Szilard Productions, Inc. under the patronage of Daniel Barenboim a production of Diego Romay are presenting the international hit muscial. 'Tanguera' The Tango Musical has a book by Diego Romay & Dolores Espeja; and lyrics by Eladia Blazques. The musical direction and arrangements are by Gerardo Gardelin and the tango arrangements are by Lisandro Adrover. Set design is by Valeria Ambrosio, with costume design by Cecilia Monti and lighting design by Ariel Del Mastro. The choreographer is Mora Godoy and the director is Omar Pacheco.
