Review: EVIL DEAD THE MUSICAL at Warwick Theatre

“Look Who’s Evil Now,” it’s the cast and crew of Padgett Productions EVIL DEAD THE MUSICAL, which opened Friday, June 2 at the Warwick Theatre in Kansas City, Missouri. The splatter zone was sold-out for the opening, and the raucous crowd only added to an exciting hilarious romp at the cabin in the woods, where you can be killed by a tree. Do not ask for whom the Weeping Willow cries, it cries for you.

Photos: First look at CYCLODRAMA's EVIL DEAD THE MUSICAL

This hilarious show takes all the elements of the cult classic films The Evil Dead, Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness and combines them into one of the craziest experiences of all time. Five college students go to an abandoned cabin in the woods and accidentally unleash an evil force that turns them all into demons. It's all up to Ash (a housewares employee turned demon-killing hero) and his trusty chainsaw to save the day. Blood flies. Limbs are dismembered. Demons tell bad jokes … and all to music. And with an incredible combination of blood, jokes, cheesy effects and awesome musical numbers, Evil Dead The Musical is unlike any show you've ever seen. While the Evil Dead films are the definition of cult movies, as a stage show, Evil Dead: The Musical has become a cult sensation of its own. The show played off-Broadway in New York, has broken records in Toronto, has won awards in Korea and has had more than 200 productions mounted across the globe. Performances are Oct 7, 8, 14, 15, 21 & 22, 2022, at Club Diversity, 863 South High St. Columbus OH. For tickets or more information, visit: https://www.cyclodrama.com

BWW Review: THE NOTEWORTHY LIFE OF HOWARD BARNES at BDT Stage

Seeing new musicals is something I relish. With no frame of reference, it allows me to take in every aspect of the show more profoundly. The Noteworthy Life of Howard Barnes at BDT Stage is the latest contemporary musical to be picked over by yours truly.

Video: First Look at THE NOTEWORTHY LIFE OF HOWARD BARNES at BDT Stage

To some of us, waking up to learn our life has  become a musical would be a dream come true. To others, it would be a true nightmare. Luckily, there's a musical for that! Described as The Truman Show meets Family Guy, The Noteworthy Life of Howard Barnes drops our hero, an average man in his 30s, smack dab in the middle of a fantastical quest through all things musical theatre.

BWW Review: BDT Stage's AVENUE Q is Just As Clever As You Remember

Oh, how I missed raunchy theatre. It's been years since I paid my old pals at Avenue Q a visit. And the jokes still feel as fresh as...well, the salad I had right before I watched puppet sex at a dinner theater.

BWW Feature: ORONO BASED SOME THEATRE COMPANY ANNOUNCES 5TH SEAON

In the 3 and half years they have been in operation, Some Theatre Company hasn't been afraid to choose the obscure, the angsty and the downright bloody! This season will be no exception. Producing 21 shows in 3 years, 20192020 has been designed around books and movies, (with the exception of Next to Normal which had to move dates and pushed it into this season rather than the tail end of 1819)

BWW Review: EVIL DEAD THE MUSICAL at Prohibition Hall

I am a big fan of campy rock musicals and what's not to like with EVIL DEAD THE MUSICAL. Hilarious, wonderful music, appropriate scenery, fabulous talent, and a talking moose. Throw in a half dozen zombies and you have the makings of a wonderful night at the theater. That's what Padgett Productions delivers with EVIL DEAD THE MUSICAL which opened Friday, June 7 and runs through June 22 at Prohibition Hall in Kansas City. The outrageous musical comedy written by playwright and lyricist George Reinblatt features music composed by Reinblatt, Christopher Bond, Frank Cipolla, and Melissa Morris.
