Nashville Opera Sets 100th Production


Nashville Opera presents Johann Strauss' Die Fledermaus at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center's Andrew Jackson Hall located at 505 Deaderick Street in Downtown Nashville: Thursday, April 7th at 7 PM and Saturday, April 9th at 8 PM. John Hoomes, Nashville Opera's Chief Executive Officer and Artistic Director, directs the production with Maestro Dean Williamson conducting the Nashville Opera Orchestra. Amy Tate Williams, accompanist and chorusmaster, leads the 24-member Nashville Opera Ensemble. John Hoomes will present the popular Opera Insights discussion one-hour prior to curtain on the Orchestra Level and admission is free to all ticket holders.

Berkshire Opera Festival to Offer Free Concert, 7/29


Berkshire Opera Festival (BOF) is offering its first musical event in the Berkshires at 7:30pm on Wednesday, July 29 at Ventfort Hall in Lenox. General Director Jonathon Loy and Artistic Director Brian Garman, co-founders of the company, will present this free concert featuring some of opera's greatest arias and ensembles as a prelude to the company's inaugural season in summer 2016. The concert will be headlined by soprano Caroline Worra, tenor Cody Austin, and baritone Kyle Pfortmiller. These three artists perform regularly at opera companies around the country, including The Metropolitan Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, San Francisco Opera, the Glimmerglass Festival, Opera Philadelphia, and Dallas Opera.

American Opera Projects (AOP) will present concert performances of scenes from two operas-in-development - Henry's Wife, by composer Randall Eng (pictured) and librettist Alexis Bernier, and Eichmann in Jerusalem, by composer Mohammed Fairouz and librettist David Shapiro. Henry's Wife will be presented at Manhattan School of Music's Greenfield Hall (120 Claremont Ave. @122nd St.) on Sunday, March 13 at 2:30pm, continuing a five-year relationship between AOP and Manhattan School of Music. Henry's Wife and scenes from Eichmann in Jerusalem will be presented on Sunday, March 20 at 7:00pm at South Oxford Space: 138 South Oxford Street in Fort Greene, Brooklyn. Each semi-staged performance will feature a panel discussion and Q&A with the creators. Tickets are $20; $15 advance; $10 students & seniors, at www.operaprojects.org.
