BIO

Born in Houston, Texas, John Devereaux, discovered performance at the age of 14 after being persuaded to be in a play most of his close friends were in. From that production stemmed the passion of acting, singing, and entertainment. While in Texas, John was fortunate enough to work in a number of commercials including a national Wheel of Fortune spot. He was even able to get a taste of reality television at his alma mater's show "Top Grad". While in college, for his summer breaks, John had the opportunity to travel to Idaho to be at Coeur d'Alene Summer Theatre (named one of the top 10 places to see the lights off-broadway by USA Today) to perform in the first all black cast in the theater's history in "Once On This Island" as Agwe. John was invited back to CST the following summer to perform the iconic role of Coalhouse Walker, Jr. in the musical epic, "Ragtime". With the gathering momentum from "Ragtime" and receiving his BA in Theatre from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas, John relocated to Los Angeles where he now resides continuing to pursue his passion in acting. His film credits include The Darq (2011), Be My Teacher (2011), Zephyr Springs (2013), and more.

Review: After Covid and the Insurrection, HAMILTON Resonates More Deeply in its TPAC Return

When Lin-Manuel Miranda’s epic masterpiece Hamilton was last in residence at Nashville’s Tennessee Performing Arts Center – where it is now ensconced for an as equally anticipated, if briefer, two-week run through August 7 – the world was a far different place than that in which we live today. Yet somehow, due in very large part to the Covid-19 pandemic, the January 6th insurrection at our nation’s Capitol, and the repercussions and reverberations of those two cataclysmic events that have followed in the intervening two-and-a-half years, Hamilton seems to be more resonant, its story more relevant and its presentation more heartrending and current than ever before.
BWW Interview: JOHN DEVEREAUX Has Hometown Nostalgia as HAMILTON Tour Makes a Stop at The Hobby Center for Performing Arts.

The term hometown hero is an understatement when it comes to John Devereaux. Having spent his formative years within Space City, attending Westfield High School and Texas Christian University, John Devereaux is excited to be back in home and around family as he tours with HAMILTON.
BWW Review: HAMILTON Returns to Austin

Lin-Manuel Miranda’s HAMILTON, returns to Austin’s Bass Concert Hall with full seats and roaring crowds. There are shows that shift the way we see theatre and this is one of those rare productions that will remain in our collective consciousness long after the final notes sound.

BWW Spotlight Series: Meet Multi-Talented Triple-Threat Actor John Devereaux

This Spotlight focuses on John Devereaux, a multi-talented triple-threat actor who I shared the stage with in Little Shop of Horrors at the Westchester Playhouse a year after he arrived in Los Angeles from Houston, and who has gone on to charm audiences across the country in touring productions of Rent and Hamilton. John also appeared locally in Dreamgirls at the Pasadena Playhouse, Spamilton at the Kirk Douglas Theatre, and during the Hollywood Fringe Festival in the world premiere of Recorded in Hollywood, among many other productions. I was longing forward to seeing him take the stage in Hamilton at the Pantages Theatre soon, but unfortunately the national tour in which he was appearing had to shut down along with the rest of the world's theaters. So what's he up to now?

BWW Review: HAMILTON Who? SPAMILTON Reigns Supreme at the Kirk Douglas Theatre

For the last 25 years, Gerardo Alessandrini has paid homage to the Great American Musical in the best way he knows how, by skewering it relentlessly. It is an arena where nothing is off limits no diva, no composer, and no quirk of the genre, which is why his FORBIDDEN BROADWAY revues are as beloved as any book musical to grace the Great White Way. Now, the biggest game-changer since Rogers and Hammerstein, Andrew Lloyd Webber, or Stephen Sondheim came on the scene, has given him fodder for a new installment in his popular franchise - Lin-Manuel Miranda and his multi-Tony Award-winning mega-hit, HAMILTON: An American Musical.
