BIO
James Norton began gaining attention in film and theatre with roles in An Education (2009) and the original Royal Court Theatre production of Posh (2010). In 2010, he starred in That Face at Sheffield’s Crucible Theatre opposite Frances Barber. He later appeared in the UK and West End productions of Journey’s End (2011) and starred in The Lion in Winter (2011) at the Theatre Royal Haymarket, directed by Trevor Nunn.
Norton’s early screen credits include Cheerful Weather for the Wedding (2012), Rush (2013), and Belle (2013). His television appearances during this period included Doctor Who, Death Comes to Pemberley, and the crime drama Happy Valley, in which he portrayed Tommy Lee Royce across all three series.
From 2014 to 2018, Norton starred as Sidney Chambers in the ITV drama Grantchester opposite Robson Green. During this time, he also appeared in the films Northmen: A Viking Saga (2014) and Mr. Turner (2014), the BBC miniseries Life in Squares (2015), and the BBC adaptation of War & Peace (2016), where he played Prince Andrei Bolkonsky. Additional credits include the West End production of Bug (2016), an episode of Black Mirror titled “Nosedive” (2016), and Amy Herzog’s Belleville at the Donmar Warehouse (2017–2018).
In 2019, Norton portrayed John Brooke in Little Women, directed by Greta Gerwig. He later executive produced and starred as Harold Godwinson in the BBC historical drama King & Conqueror, which aired in 2025 through his production company. He also appeared in the Netflix series House of Guinness and was cast as Brian Epstein in The Beatles – A Four-Film Cinematic Event, directed by Sam Mendes and scheduled for release in 2028.
