Un 30 de diciembre de 1948, el New Century Theatre subía el telón por primera vez para escenificar KISS ME, KATE. Long before Broadway's saturation with jukebox musicals and song catalog shows, Ben Bagley, a producer of modestly-financed Off-Broadway revues, added to what was then musical theatre's long title trend (HOW TO SUCCEED IN BUSINESSWITHOUT REALLY TRYING, A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE FORUM...) and created a charming revue titled THE DECLINE AND FALL OF THE ENTIRE WORLD AS SEEN THROUGH THE EYES OF COLE PORTER.

It will indeed be a historic introduction to our 2016 season when Family Musical Theater takes to the stage for their first show of the season, "Kiss Me, Kate".

It is structured as a play within a play, where the interior play is a musical version of William Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew. The original production starred Alfred Drake, Patricia Morison, Lisa Kirk and Harold Lang. Kiss Me, Kate was a response to Rodgers and Hammerstein's Oklahoma! and other integrated musicals, and it proved to be his biggest hit and the only one of his shows to run for more than 1,000 performances on Broadway. It won the first Tony Award presented for Best Musical, in 1949.

American Dance Theatre Productions will present ANGEL ON MY SHOULDER from Tuesday, July 30 through Sunday, August 4, at the June Havoc Theatre at the Abingdon Theatre Arts Complex, as part of the Midtown International Theatre Festival. A jazzy, contemporary update of the classic film about a murdered gangster brought back to life by the devil, who is anxious to besmirch the reputation of an incorruptible New York judge, ANGEL ON MY SHOULDER has Music by WARREN HILL, Lyrics by O'MARA LEARY & JAMES BEAUMONT & Book by JAMES BEAUMONT. This AEA Approved Showcase Production will be directed by JOE MARUZZO.

Barrington Stage Company, the award-winning theatre in downtown Pittsfield, MA, under the leadership of Julianne Boyd Artistic Director and TriStan Wilson Managing Director, presents the Bernstein/Comden/Green musical On the Town now through July 13 on the Boyd-Quinson Mainstage, 30 Union Street, Pittsfield.
