Vistas Media Capital Making Feature Documentary About International Music And Feminist Icon Laura Nyro
Vistas Media Capital, which recently launched its North American division, today announced that it is developing and producing a feature documentary about Laura Nyro, the gifted and influential singer/songwriter that burst on the scene in the late 1960s while still a teenager, and who effectively rejected the demands of superstardom in her 20s and pursued a life of activism for women's rights and the environment.

A groundbreaking exhibition documents the image, influence, and activism of Angela Davis. Angela Davis—Seize the Time was developed at the Zimmerli Art Museum at Rutgers University, where it is now on view. With some 220 objects, Seize the Time not only examines Davis's arrest, incarceration, trial and the national and international campaigns to free her, but also positions her as a continuing touchstone for contemporary artists.

Francis Jeffery Dickens arrives in Canada in 1874 with all the prejudices and presumptions of a white colonist/settler. After serving 11 years as a member of the North West Mounted Police, Frank is horrified by the mendacity and theft that robbed the Indigenous Peoples of their lands. He learns to respect the traditions and wisdom of First Nations culture and begins to understand the urgent need to live in harmony with Mother Nature.

Lehmann Maupin Presents Collection of Seminal Films and Sculptures by GILBERT & GEORGE, 7/1 - 8/8
Lehmann Maupin is pleased to present a group of seminal films and video sculptures by pioneering artists Gilbert & George. Among the longest-enduring artist duos, they have had sustained influence on the contemporary art world for the past fifty years. The exhibition Films and Video Sculptures, 1972-1981 will be shown in the gallery's 201 Chrystie Street location and represents an integral, transitional link between the artists' early art and their later, more widely known large-scale pictures. This exhibition is the artists' fifth show with Lehmann Maupin.

Forty-six historical and recent pictures tracing more than 40 years of creation will be shown in a presentation designed by the artists on the three floors of Villa Paloma. This unique exhibition comprises pictures from a single private collection of a family based in Monaco. The works fall into a theme repeatedly addressed by the NMNM, that of a “built” landscape, subject of analysis and interpretation for a society that constantly changes. Through this selection, each viewer will see how the art of Gilbert & George comprises both a world of its own – intense, frightening, lonely, loving, abject, joyous, struggling, defiant, crazed, still, contemplative, vertiginous, desiring, modern – and a view of the past, present, and future world.
