Berkshire Theatre Group has announced its full Holiday 2025 season, with festive programming set to light up the Berkshires this December. Anchored by a new production of A Christmas Carol at the Unicorn Theatre, this year’s schedule also includes a joyful lineup of holiday concerts, family-friendly events, and a New Year’s Eve celebration with fan-favorite band Max Creek.

The production is uniformly strong in all respects as is the cast. Even the unseasonably cold and damp weather during the opening weekend helped to set the proper atmosphere. Standout performances are delivered by Laura Shatkus, Harry Smith, and Michael Wartella. The latter incorporating subtle contortions from head-to-toe and delivers a performance that allows us to see a man that most see as “hideous” and “grotesque”, intimately as those who came to know Merrick as rather much like most despite the differences, intolerance, and disdain so largely afflicted upon him.

Michael Fray’s script is brilliant. He uses a delicate but superbly balanced mix of complex scientific dialogue related to Physics with general human behavior, and interpersonal dynamics. While there are ample opportunities for the non-scientific to give up based on theoretical and technical content, we are brought back into the piece.
