He first gained national recognition after being discovered by Ira Glass, who invited him to read his work on NPR. Sedaris’s breakout piece, “Santaland Diaries,” aired on NPR’s Morning Edition in 1992, becoming an instant listener favorite and launching his career.
He went on to publish numerous bestselling essay collections, including Barrel Fever, Naked, Me Talk Pretty One Day, and Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim, many of which became The New York Times Best Sellers. His work frequently appears on This American Life and in publications such as The New Yorker and Esquire.
In addition to his prose, Sedaris has collaborated with his sister, Amy Sedaris, on several stage works under “The Talent Family,” including The Book of Liz. His later works include When You Are Engulfed in Flames, Let's Explore Diabetes with Owls, and Happy Go Lucky.
