It's the most wonderful time of the year for Nashville's theater community: 2017 Sideshow Fringe opened on Thursday night and is now in full-swing, with a myriad of offerings in store for theater-goers this weekend at venues all across town. There's enough art - both entertaining and intriguing - to satisfy the most discerning of audiences, inspiring them in the process. Among the upcoming events is F. Lynne Bachleda's Stories From the Back Seat - a collection of monologues gathered by Bachleda during her tenure as a driver for a ride-sharing platform, an experience that provided her with a wealth of material.

GOOD MORNING, THEATERATI for May 19, 2017

GOOD MORNING, THEATERATI! Down in the right-hand corner of my computer screen, it tells me that its Friday, May 19 - which means that Memorial Day Weekend is just a week away! - how in the world did we make it from New Year's Day to Memorial Day in what seems to me to be like 15 minutes? When you figure that out, please give me a heads-up so I can better prepare for Christmas shopping! And that, of course, has me wondering what shows we'll be seeing during the next holiday season which, in turn, prompts me to ask the musical question: What's your favorite Christmas or holiday-themed stage offering?

As members of the Nashville theater community join with members of the theaterati far-flung across the world to celebrate the 20th birthday of Actors Bridge Ensemble - the cutting-edge, forward-thinking, boundary-pushing, status quo-challenging theater company that has helped to make Music City USA somehow more creative and more welcoming to artisans who flock here to pursue their dreams - we are reminded of the company's early days and the days even before that when we first came to know of a young woman named Vali Forrister.
