BIO

Brian Murray was a Tony-nominated actor known for his commanding stage presence and rich voice. Born in Ireland in 1937, Murray began his acting career in Dublin before moving to London and eventually settling in New York City.

Murray made his Broadway debut in 1961 in the play "A Man For All Seasons," but it was his performance in the 1973 production of "The Play About the Baby" that earned him his first Tony nomination. He went on to receive two more Tony nominations for his work in "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead" in 1968 and "The Crucible" in 2002.
In addition to his work on stage, Murray appeared in numerous films and television shows throughout his career. He had a recurring role on the hit TV series "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" and appeared in films such as "The Insider" and "Rounders."
Murray was also a prolific voice actor, lending his distinctive voice to a number of animated films and TV shows. He provided the voice of the villainous Captain Hook in the animated series "Peter Pan and the Pirates" and voiced the character of the villainous Ratigan in Disney's "The Great Mouse Detective."
Throughout his career, Murray remained a fixture in the New York theater scene, appearing in productions both on and off-Broadway. He was a regular performer at the Irish Repertory Theatre and appeared in numerous productions at the Manhattan Theatre Club.
Murray's most recent work included a 2018 production of "The Emperor Jones" at the Irish Repertory Theatre and a 2017 production of "The Dead, 1904" at the American Irish Historical Society. He passed away in August 2018 at the age of 80, leaving behind a rich legacy of stage, screen, and voice work.
