Announcing Lincoln Center's White Light Festival 2017

Ehrenkranz Artistic Director Jane Moss today announced Lincoln Center's 2017 White Light Festival, which runs from October 18 through November 15. With more than 35 events presented in 13 venues throughout the city, including U.S. and New York premieres and nine commissions, the eighth annual international festival will explore transcendence, interior illumination, and faith in the human spirit, as exhibited through artistic expression across continents and centuries. The multidisciplinary festival takes its name from a quotation by Estonian composer Arvo Part: "Icouldcomparemymusic to white light, which contains all colors. Only a prism can divide the colors and make them appear; this prism could be the spirit of the listener."

With Under 100 Performances, SOUL DOCTOR to Close on Broadway October 13

The producers of the new Broadway musical Soul Doctor, about the life and music of Shlomo Carlebach and his unlikely friendship with Nina Simone, announced today that the show will play its final performance on Sunday, October 13 at 3pm. Following a Off-Broadway run last year and in Fort Lauderdale, FL, Soul Doctor began previews at Broadway's Circle in the Square Theatre on July 17 and had its official opening on Thursday, August 15. Upon its closing, Soul Doctor will have played 32 previews and 66 regular performances.

SOUL DOCTOR Announces New Partnership with Birthright Israel's Alumni Community

The producers of the new Broadway musical Soul Doctor - about the life and music of Shlomo Carlebach and his unlikely friendship with Nina Simone - have formed an ambitious partnership with Michael Steinhardt's Birthright Israel alumni effort, The Alumni Community, the organization's primary provider of post programming, and the central address for participants when they return home from their Israel experience. The partnership, a first for The Alumni Community, includes the opportunity for 5,000 alumni to see Soul Doctor, participate in exclusive receptions and post-performance talkbacks, and is being underwritten by Mr. Steinhardt, co-founder of Birthright Israel.

Pianist Orli Shaham, whose playing the London's Guardian recently called 'perfection'performs and leads Symphony musicians in an array of Brahms' treasured classics for strings and piano with Concertmaster Raymond Kobler and Bridget Dolkas on violin, Robert Becker and Meredith Crawford on viola, and Timothy Landauer and Kevin Plunkett on cello. The program opens with the composer's Sonata No. 1 in E Minor for Cello and Piano, which paved the way for fully orchestrated cello concertos to come. Then, with expressive beauty and unlimited interpretive possibilities, Shaham performs Brahms' 'Six Pieces for Piano,' dedicated to the love of his life, Clara Schumann; the second to last work published during his lifetime, this piano set shows unprecedented fluidity and grace.

Pacific Symphony Announces WOODWIND MAGIC, 1/20

Rich, bright and highly expressive, chamber works by the masters showcase Pacific Symphony's woodwind musicians at their finest during "Woodwind Magic," the next concert in the Cafe Ludwig chamber series. Charming piano sensation and host Orli Shaham leads principal Symphony musicians in works from the 18th to 20th centuries. On flute, Benjamin Smolen captures the expressive melodies and quick trills of Prokofiev's energetic Flute Sonata in discourse with piano. Then the velvety smooth sound of the clarinet, played by Benjamin Lulich, is featured in four movements from Bruch's Eight Pieces for Clarinet, Viola and Piano, with Robert Becker on viola, and Stravinsky's Three Pieces for Clarinet Solo. The concert concludes as Jessica Pearlman, oboe; Rose Corrigan, bassoon; and Keith Popejoy, horn, join Lulich and Shaham for Mozart's Quintet in E-flat Major, known for its perfect balance among the five instruments.
