I'm surprised SMASH didn't get more recognition in the acting categories...particularly the two leads (not to say both should be nominated, but at least one of them).

SMASH stood very little chance of a nomination in the acting categories. Cable has a far higher standard of acting than network TV - the only nominee from a network show is I think Julianna Margulies - and you'd be hard-pressed to say Hilty or especially McPhee was as good as, say, Clare Danes.
If they treated this as a comedy (which it is in my house!) they should have been. Even McPhee is acting better than Zooey (not that she's not a good actress, but she's playing herself in New Girl)!! And Christian would have gotten in over the hohumeveryModernFamilyactoragain someone.
Regardless of it being treated as a Comedy or a Drama, there was no way in hell they were scoring Lead or Supporting Acting noms- there are simply too many actors and actresses giving excellent performances on television right now- and as previously stated, especially on cable where shows are giving longer to find an audience.
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.
I'd say Let Me Be Your Star has a decent shot. It's up against the song from the tony's It's Not Just For Gays Anymore, a song from an episode of Raising Hope, a song Jason Segel sang when he hosted SNL and a song from some TV christmas movie called The Heart of Christmas. I'd think It's not Just for Gays Anymore is the front runner but an SNL monologue song won last year I think. This is an award that in the past has gone to humorous songs (I'm F*CKing Matt Damon from Jimmy Kimmel Live, Dick in a Box from SNL)
2007 was the first year they started awarding it for individual songs, before that it was just award to series/movies in general (the Showtime Reefer Madness won it).
