I've heard people waited 5+ hours for SRO. I know the BOM reviews are great but is it really worth it?

When we went back end of June, we picked up our tickets at 3pm and there were people sitting there waiting for SRO (for an 8pm show!). How exactly does SRO work? Do they literally wait there until 8pm to see if they get tickets? And where is the area in which they stand? Show is awesome and if I lived in NY, I'd definitely try and go again (even with a year wait)

Absolutely worth it. For that price and location (you stand, but it's the back of a small orchestra with a great view), it's a steal, really.

The tickets are sold an hour before curtain. There is a window to the right of the lobby entrance that sells SRO tickets. The line forms there and goes toward 8th.

I did it a week or so before the Tonys. I got there at 3:00pm and was the 8th person in line. Even though they only have a certain amount, there were people who still stood in the line past the last person that would get tickets. I was past there last week on a hot day and the line was not that long. I suspect people got there, realized they were probably not getting in and left because of the heat.

Is it worth it? yes, it is. I was offended by the end of one song but the show, overall, is very good. is it worth the premium prices? In my opinion, no. But for me, no show is worth paying premium prices. The view from standing room is great and even after standing for 3 hours to get tickets I guess the excitement made it easier to stand for the show. It is a bit cramped back there during walk-in and intermission so I wouldn't take bags in with you.

I'm on the fence for this one. Am I glad I saw the show? Of course. Am I glad I only paid $27 for it? Absolutely. Do I think I would've enjoyed the show more had I not just spent 6+ hours waiting in line? I have no doubt. I like being in the club that can say I saw Book of Mormon, but I don't think I'd do SRO again. Sitting outside on a NY sidewalk for over 6 hours one time is enough for me!

no show is worth premium prices.

but SRO is worth. I did it once by getting there at 4pm and got one of the last spots. I hear it's been crazy since they won the Tony, with some people showing up at 8am.

In those six hours you could have turned a couple of tricks and afforded the premium seats.

My 3 hours actually flew by. I met people in line and Nikki M. James and Jared Gertner (Josh gad's standby) came out to talk to the 2 girls behind us. They all went to school together. Gertner was really cool. He hung out and talked to us until the SRO window opened and even stopped by to ask me how I liked the show at intermission.

It was absolutely worth it, though I did it early enough in the run that I got there at 4:30pm and was 4th in line. Would I want to wait 8+ hours? Probably not. I'd just keep trying the lottery over & over.

I did SRO in May and stood in line for 4 hours (got there at 2 pm for a 7 pm Tuesday show) and it was completely worth it. The weather was great, I brought some homework and a book. I was with two friends and there is a Starbucks a block away with a bathroom. The view from SRO is great. I enjoyed the show so much I didn't mind standing for it at all.

And considering the ticket prices now...$27 is a complete steal to see the show.

I think this question depends on the individual.

If you have only one chance to see the show and you cannot afford premium or scalped tickets, then probably it is worth it.

Otherwise, I cannot imagine why anyone would wait in line for 8 hours or more to see any show.

Not to be confused with Dave19.

We met some lovely people in the SRO line. One woman who was by herself won the lottery and offered the other seated ticket to my mum which was extremely nice of her. It really is an amazing view.

I won the lottery a couple of weeks ago. I played for several months without winning which probably adds up to the time spent in standby line. Was it worth all that for that show? Nah. I am glad I saw it and grateful they do lotto, but it wasn't something that I would see again or spend any time trying to see again.

It's a decent show, but it's VERY overhyped at this point.

So, that was the Drowsy Chaperone. Oh, I love it so much. I know it's not a perfect show...but it does what a musical is supposed to do. It takes you to another world, and it gives you a little tune to carry with you in your head for when you're feeling blue. Ya know?

Is SRO like lotto where you can buy two tickets, or is it only one per person?

It's two tickets per person.

I keep wondering if this is going to become one of those things that attract the professional "line sitters", like Shakespeare in the Park, but the fact that they don't give out the tickets until an hour before curtain probably makes it more complicated to try and do that (which is undoubtedly why they do it that way).

So so so so worth it.

I actually loved the show so much that I ended up doing SRO twice... in the same week. Besides the fact that the show is fantastic, the view is incredible for that price and the wait isn't that bad if you have people to wait with. Just make sure you sit as much as possible through the day.. I tried standing in the line most of the 4 hours I waited the first time, and my feet were killing me by intermission.

Definitely go for it!

YES!

Me and my friend got there at 12:45pm for the Wednesday 7pm performance and ended up being 5th and 6th in line. Fortunately, it wasn't that hot a day and the height of the buildings provides you with plenty of shade. We made friends with the other ladies in line, so we could keep each other's spaces while we would go and get food/restroom breaks. Did a lot of sitting and a bit of standing, and found that it was not a bad wait. I'd rather the afternoon wait than getting up uberly-early in the morning. The queue got gradually bigger as the hours went by.

And boy was it worth it. Leaning on the handrail makes it a lot better and the view is perfect, you can see everything. Add in trillions of laughter and you have $27 well spent.

Still buzzing with excitement, 24 hours later!
