And a Happy Birthday shout-out to Ellen Burstyn, who turns 83 today!
Burstyn last appeared on Broadway in PICNIC in 2013. Before that, she starred in OLDEST LIVING CONFEDERATE WIDOW TELLS ALL, SACRILEGE, SHIMADA, SHIRLEY VALENTINE, 84 CHARING CROSS ROAD and SAME TIME, NEXT YEAR (which won her a Tony and a Drama Desk in 1975, and earned her a Golden Globe for the film adaptation three years later). She has also taken the West End stage in THE CHILDREN'S HOUR and played off-Broadway in THE LITTLE FLOWER OF EAST ORANGE. Burstyn received her first Oscar nomination for 1971's THE LAST PICTURE SHOW and another in 1973 for THE EXORCIST. She won the following year for Martin Scorsese's ALICE DOESN'T LIVE HERE ANYMORE. Among her other lauded films are RESURRECTION and REQUIEM FOR A DREAM. She was inducted into the American Theatre Hall of Fame in 2013.
