TWITTER WATCH: Harvey Fierstein: Tambor Is 'Brilliant'

TWITTER_WATCH_Harvey_Fierstein_Tambor_Is_Brilliant_20010101

BroadwayWorld.com presents Twitter Watch, which brings you only the best and most interesting reports straight from the mouths of Broadway stars, shows and more on the hot social networking service - Twitter!

Winner of the 'most creative' response amongst the hundreds that we received (including nearly everyone on the list ... and many who weren't picked) after posting BroadwayGirlNYC's list of "The Top 100 Theatre Tweeters You Must Follow on Twitter" went to Harvey Fierstein. The four-time Tony Award-winner is returning to Broadway February 15, starring as Albin in the 2010 Tony Award-winning revival of LA CAGE AUX FOLLES. The Broadway favorite will appear opposite six-time Emmy Award nominee Jeffrey Tambor ("Arrested Development," "The Larry Sanders Show") will make his Broadway musical debut as Georges.

Had first LA CAGE rehearsal today. Don't know about me, but Jeffrey Tambor is going to be brilliant.

I have a costume fitting in an hour. Is it too late to diet?

Does serving cold cuts send the wrong message on New Years Eve?

Why didn't someone tell me it was snowing? I would have cooked.

Harvey Fierstein made his professional acting debut at La Mama ETC in 1971 in Andy Warhol's only play, Pork. He followed that with appearances in more than 60 off off Broadway productions before he began his playwriting career. Early plays like Flatbush Tosca and Cobra Jewels led to his underground hit, Torch Song Trilogy, which transferred Off-Broadway in 1981 and then to Broadway in 1982 where it won the Best Play Tony Award as well as Drama Desk, Obie and Dramatist Guild Awards. Fierstein also won Tony, Drama Desk and Theater World Awards for his portrayal of the lead. Fierstein won his third Tony for the libretto of the musical La Cage aux Folles. His other plays include Safe Sex, A Catered Affair and Legs Diamond. Fierstein's starring role as Edna in the musical Hairspray won him his fourth Tony Award as well as another Drama Desk Award, New York Magazine Award and the Drama League Award for Outstanding Performance of the Year. This made him only the second person in history to win Tonys in four different categories. He recently completed a national tour of Fiddler on the Roof, playing Tevye, a role he played for more than a year in the show's 2005 record-breaking Broadway revival.

His television work includes "Nurse Jackie," "How I Met Your Mother," "Family Guy" and "The Simpsons". He was nominated for an Emmy for his work on the TV classic, "Cheers".

Films include Mrs. Doubtfire, Independence Day, Death to Smoochy and Bullets Over Broadway. His children's book, The Sissy Duckling, is published by Simon & Schuster and the HBO film version won him the Humanitas Prize. Fierstein was inducted into the Theater Hall of Fame in 2008. Fierstein is currently writing the books for the stage musicals of Kinky Boots, with music and lyrics by Cyndi Lauper and directed and choreographed by Jerry Mitchell and Newsies, with music by Alan Menken and lyrics by Jack Feldman.
