Luis Salgado will choreograph Roberto Clemente Story

After the development of the first peruvian original musical CANDELA "Fuerza y Pasión", Luis Salgado is ready to go back to NYC to créate the choreography of DC-7, The Roberto Clemente Story.


The Educational Society for the Arts (Sociedad Educativa de las Artes - SEA), in the 25th Edition, under the artistic direction of Dr Manuel A. Morán, announced the 6th edition of BORIMIX 2011: Puerto Rico Fest in November, celebrating the Month of Puerto Rico Heritage. This festival, which gathers several cultural institutions and well-known PR artists in every form of art, presents more tan 25 events in NYC, including performances of visual arts, theatre, dance, poetry, music and PR cinema. This year, SEA dedicates BORIMIX 2011: Puerto Rico Fest to the life and work of PR artist ROBERTO CLEMENTE.


Among the activities to commemorate his legacy, DC-7, The Roberto Clemente Story, a new musical will premiere in BORMIX, written and directed by Luis Caballero. The show will present the story of legendary pelotero, first PR and latin american who entered the Hall of Fame of Baseball and scored 3,000 hits. He died December 31st 1972, in a tragic airplane crash in a trip to Nicaragua with food and medicines. "I feel happy, driven and excited. I think this is the right time to show this piece," says Luis Caballero, who started writing this play 6 years ago. This production means his comeback to theatre, after some years writing and directing films.

The musical will have its world wide premiere in the new TEATRO SEA in New York City (107, Suffolk Street, Manhattan) on November 3rd 2011. The run will end at the end of the month. PR actor Modesto Lacén will star the show, playing the role of Roberto Clemente. "I'm happy and thankful to God and life for this opportunity. I will work very hard to play the role of this important man in the History of Puerto Rico with honesty and dignity," says Modesto Lacén. The rest of the cast will be chosen through auditions that will take place on September 8th in Teatro SEA, in Centro Cultural Clemente Soto Vélez in Lower Manhattan. "We gathered a group of talented designers and creative team to make this wonderful production," says producer Manuel Morán. In the creative team, Luis Caballero (Director) Luis Salgado (Choreography), José López (Set Designer), Manuel Morán (Light Designer) Miguel Trelles (Art) y Harry Nadal (Costume Designer). Harold Gutiérrez will be Musical Director.

Luis Salgado, choreographer and director mentioned "What else can I ask for? I dream about making Art Day and night. Here in Peru they have felt the impact of the work we are doing. The culture and Peruvian proud is enhanced with our production and I dream with doing the same with my PR culture someday. No doubt DC-7, The Roberto Clemente Story can be the starting point of a musical that make my people and my country proud."

Candela will open at the Zum in Universidad de Lima Septiembre 1,2,3 and 4. Luis has travelled with a great team, including designer Joel Silver, Stage Manager Heather Hogan, italian artista and assistant choreographer in Festival de Coreógrafos de R.Evolucion Latina and he added to his team Maestro Luis Antonio Viichez and D1 Dancer Diana Foligati. www.candelafuerzaypasion.com
