Newsies, the breakout new American musical, set a new house record at Broadway’s Nederlander Theatre (208 W. 41st Street) playing to 100% capacity and grossing $1,024,516.60 for eight performances the week ending April 15, 2012. This bests the previous Nederlander house record, also set by Newsies, when the production grossed $963,625 for eight performances the week ending April 8, 2012. Prior to Newsies, the Nederlander Theatre house record was held by Rent when it grossed $955,535 for nine performances the week ending January 1, 2006. THE BOOK OF MORMON, winner of nine Tony Awards including Best Musical, has broken the house record of Broadway’s Eugene O’Neill Theatre for the 32nd time and also scored its first $1.6 million week, with a regular schedule of eight performances. The show earned $1,603,396.00 for the week ending Sunday, April 15, in the 1,068-seat O’Neill, one of Broadway’s smallest theatres. And, Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus’ smash hit musical MAMMA MIA!, now celebrating 10 years on Broadway, has another reason to celebrate this spring. MAMMA MIA! celebrated a top charting week in Broadway’s “Millionaire’s Club” with a gross of $1,005,001.96 million for the week ending Sunday, April 15, 2012.
