On Saturday, October 13, the iconic duo will be inducted as the latest honoree in Gray Line New York's prestigious Ride of Fame campaign, the premier double-decker bus, motorcoach and entertainment company's new program designed to recognize and honor leading New Yorkers and iconic New York establishments. The company bestows a bus in their fleet to each honoree they identify as an exemplary community figure.
The presentation will take place at a ribbon cutting ceremony at Pier 78 (455 12th Avenue at 38th Street) at 3 p.m., where a custom decal displaying Russell's and Hitchcock's likenesses on the front of the vehicle will be unveiled.
A new chapter to the prestigious 'Ride of Fame™' series will introduce the 'Immortal, It, Imminent' inductions to cement a time capsule for each celebrities respective recognition. Air Supply will be the inaugural "Immortal" inductee to the IIi.
Past honorees include: Walt "Clyde" Frazier, Joe Namath, Liza Minnelli, Mary Tyler Moore, Donald Trump, Whoopi Goldberg, Bernadette Peters, Richard Dreyfuss, Rachael Ray, Henrik Lundqvist, Cyndi Lauper, Roger Maris, Marc Anthony, Kenneth Cole and Reggie Jackson.
Air Supply will wrap the special day with two highly anticipated shows at B.B. King Blues Club & Grill at 7:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. The second performance will feature special guest Justin Sargent, currently starring in "Rock of Ages" on Broadway. Last spring, Sargent also appeared in an industry-only reading of "Lost In Love" -- a new period musical with a "Downton Abbey"vibe featuring new and classic Air Supply songs. The book was penned by Melissa Bell.
Air Supply recently released their new Air Supply Live DVD and CD. Recorded live in Israel, the discs are now available for purchase at Air Supply shows and online. For more information and future show dates, visit www.airsupplymusic.com.
