Wichita Community Theatre will present On Golden Pond, by Ernest Thompson from Sept. 10-14, 2014. This is a Spotlight production that only plays a one week run.
When On Golden Pond first played on Broadway in 1979, it won the Drama Desk Award. When it was revived in 2005, it won the Tony Awarf for Best Revival of a Play. Audiences easily connect with On Golden Pond as it explores family relationships and the struggles of aging.
On Golden Pond is the story of Norman and Ethel Thayer, who for decades have spent summers at their home on a lake called Golden Pond in Maine. Norman is starting to struggle with his memory and constantly talks about his impending demise. Ethel struggles to draw him out of this funk, but it is not until their daughter Chelsea arrives with her boyfriend and his teenage son that things start to pick up.
A friendship ensues between the teenager and the old man giving both a new perspective on life. On Golden Pond is a play with humor and kindness and the difficulties faced by a couple in the twilight years fo a long marriage.
On Golden Pond is directed by Alison Bridget Chambers and the cast includes Don Wineke, Dona Lancaster, Kevin Sowers, Danette Baker, Nate McManis, Gilbert Pearce.
Performances are at 8 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and 7 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets are $14 or $12 for military/senior/students (sales tax included).
