First the song, then the film, now the stage musical! Come and bring your families and friends! White Christmas has been capturing hearts in one form or another since 1941 when Bing Crosby first sang it on NBC radio's Kraft Music Hall.
Theatre Lawrence is pleased to share its joyful message this holiday season. Two World War II army vets with romance on their minds and comedy in their bones find themselves in a lodge owned by their former commander. The musical recalls the ties that bind each of us into a community, whether those ties be army, sisterhood, show biz, or neighborhood, and the generosity of spirit that inspires us to help one another. The dazzling array of Irving Berlin songs include favorites like I Love a Piano, Sisters, Blue Skies and Count Your Blessings.
White Christmas features Michael Hagen and Quinn Wasson as army buddies, Bob Wallace and Phil Davis and Katie Martin and Sonja Holmgren as Judy and Betty Haynes. Charles Decedue plays Gen. Waverly with Amy Nystrom as his granddaughter and Susan Hash-Hires as his housekeeper. Dennis Tyner plays Ralph Sheldrake and Kendra Verhage and Amy Burgardt Gilchrist play chorus girls Rhoda and Rita.
Ensemble members of the cast include Mario Bonilla, Michael Dieker, Caroline Dittamo, Hailey Gillespie, Amber Loomis, Ben Markley, Emily Nystrom, Elise Sechler, Margaret White and Charles Whitman.
The show is under the direction of Mary Doveton, with music direction by Judy Heller, and choreography by Barb Wasson. Lisa Greenwood has designed the costumes, Jack Riegle the set and Ron Chinn the lighting. Charles Goolsby is assistant director and Liza Pehrson stage manager.
Opening night audiences are invited to a reception at 6:30pm Dec. 2 catered by Wheatfields. Enjoy the paintings of local artist, Beverly Willis-Wyant.
