With just about a week to go until its final show, the award-winning sketch comedy series Right Between the Ears is gearing up for a memorable sign-off at Liberty Hall in Lawrence, KS on Saturday, November 18 at 8:00pm.
"It'll be a mix of old and new," said series creator-producer Darrell Brogdon. "We'll reprise some of our favorite material from past shows, but there's also plenty of new topical stuff, 'cause that what the audience expects from us."
After 32 years of live shows in Lawrence, Kansas City and around the Midwest, Brogdon says it's simply time to move on. "It's been a privilege to do the show and work with this incredible, wonderful cast. Plus we've had some amazing opportunities - we've been heard on NPR, the BBC and Sirius-XM...we had our own TV series for a while...we got to do some live, nationwide broadcasts. It's been a great ride."
Originally known as The Imagination Workshop, the series began in 1985 with live broadcasts from the old Lawrence Arts Center at 9th and Vermont in Lawrence. In 1993 the show moved to Liberty Hall and was re-christened Right Between the Ears in 1999.
RBTE is a four-time winner of the Gold Medal as Best Comedy Show at the New York Festivals, twice grabbing the Festival's Grand Prize for Entertainment Programming. The series won three Gold Program Awards as Best Live Entertainment Show from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and took home the Best of Show Award at the Silver Microphone Awards, among other honors.
Tickets for Right Between the Ears are on sale now at Ticketmaster and the Liberty Hall box office.
RBTE is broadcast every week on KPR 2 (Kansas Public Radio's news-talk channel) at 1:00pm Saturday and 7:00pm Wednesday. The show's website is www.RightBetweentheEars.com.
