MARY POPPINS Flies into Theatre in the Park this Friday

It's Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious as the popular family musical "MARY POPPINS" flies onto the stage at Theatre in the Park (TTIP) Friday July 29 through Sunday, July 31, and continuing into the following week on Wednesday, Aug. 3 through Saturday, Aug. 6. Curtain time is 8:30 p.m. with the outdoor amphitheater opening for seating at 6:30 p.m. "MARY POPPINS" is rated G and is the final musical production in TTIP's 47 th summer season.

"MARY POPPINS" is a co-production with the Jewish Community Center of Greater Kansas City and TTIP featuring an all-local cast. The production moves to the park venue after a three week run at The J. Tim Bair directs this production of "MARY POPPINS" with musical direction by Marsha Canaday and choreography by Kacy Christensen.

Based on the books by P.L. Travers and the classic Walt Disney film, "MARY POPPINS" the charming story surrounding the Banks children, Michael and Jane, whose mischievous behavior forces their parents to hire a new nanny, to "manage" them. Mary takes them on all kinds of magical adventures around London introducing the children to special friends including Bert, the chimney sweep. Through the Banks' family ups and downs, Mary's special presence is infectious with both young and old alike urging us all to believe in magic!

"MARY POPPINS" features a delightful score including such musical favorites as "A Spoonful of Sugar," "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" and "Chim Chim Cher-ee," with high-energy dance numbers and colorful sets.

"MARY POPPINS" is packed full of entertaining music, bright costumes, lively dance numbers and a creative set designed to work in both The J's indoor theatre and TTIP's vast outdoor stage. Tickets for "MARY POPPINS" are $8 for adults, $6 for youth and children under three are free. Limited reserve seating and parking is available. Tickets may be purchased online at www.theatreinthepark.org or at the theatre box office the nights of performance.

MOVIES IN THE PARK continue for only one buck! Up next on Tuesday, Aug. 2 is "E.T.".

The Theatre in the Park is located in Shawnee Mission Park at 7710 Renner Road, in Shawnee, KS, and is a program of the Johnson County Park & Recreation District. TTIP is the largest outdoor community theater in the country, and has been providing quality theatre entertainment in the community for more than four decades.
