CHURCH BASEMENT LADIES 2: A SECOND HELPING, the sequel to the most popular show in theatre's 32 year history, will play at Wichita's Crown Uptown Theatre from April 15 through June 13, 2010.
This Crown debut is set in the year 1969 and the world is changing. As folks protest the Vietnam War and women are demanding equal pay for equal work, in their small rural Minnesota community, the ladies of the church basement kitchen are dealing with changes of their own. CHURCH BASEMENT LADIES 2: A SECOND HELPING takes us from serving the high school students at the Luther League Banquet to a church sponsored Missionary Night and the rise and fall of a Viking's Super Bowl Sunday. From the elderly matriarch of the kitchen to the young mom-to-be, these women find strength in one another. As always, you'll laugh until your side-dish hurts with their hilarious antics and down-to-earth charm from within the church kitchen.
Performances are Thursday through Sunday evenings with four select Thursday matinees on Apr. 22, Apr. 29, May 6, May 13, May 20 and May 27.
The Crown Uptown Theatre is Wichita's most popular and only year round professional theatre in the area. Established in 1977, the Crown Uptown is located in a historic 1928 vaudeville theatre. It was designed by the famous Boller Brothers and was Wichita's first fully atmospheric theatre.
Crown Uptown is a proud member of the National Dinner Theatre Association, an organization of professional dinner theatres from across the country. Before the show, guests enjoy a four-entrée buffet with eight sides, a salad bar and soup. Buffet selections change throughout the year to provide a variety of seasonal choices. Coffee and iced tea are complimentary. Crown Uptown guests may also enjoy hors d'oeuvres, a delicious dessert or a cocktail at their table.
