Nitin Sawhney discusses Food, Journeys and Identity with guests Ravinder Bhogal and Shamil Thakrar, live in the Elgar Room
Ravinder Bhogal is an awarding chef, restaurateur, author and journalist. Born in Kenya, to Indian parents, Ravinder’s food is inspired by her mixed heritage and the UK’s diverse immigrant culture. Her debut restaurant, Jikoni, was ranked 56th in the UK by the National Restaurant Awards within 7 months of opening and achieved a coveted place in the Michelin Guide in the same year.
Shamil Thakrar co-founded Dishoom, one of the UK’s most successful Indian restaurant groups, in 2010, creating beautiful and democratic shared spaces which pay homage to the old Irani cafés of Bombay. Dishoom has been awarded the ‘Best Small Group Award’ by the Good Food Guide UK in 2017, and The Sunday Times ranked it #36 in its ‘100 Best UK Companies To Work For’ list in 2017. Before 2010, he had, amongst other things, been a management consultant for five years and worked in the food industry for eight years.
