Following a string of sold out local and international dates, the genre-defying Orchestral Qawwali Project brings Sufi music to the Royal Albert Hall in a special one-off show with the National Youth Chamber Choir, London Voices and Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra.
Made up of composer and arranger Rushil Ranjan and singer Abi Sampa, and featuring some of the most celebrated Indian Classical dancers from around the country (including Aakash Odedra, Vidya Patel), this promises to be Orchestral Qawwali's most exciting show to date, reframing traditional and well known qawwali compositions at a scale never before seen.
Presented in association with Glynis Henderson Productions and the Bagri Foundation. Supported by Ragatip.
Widely regarded as the biggest step forward for the art-form in decades, the Orchestral Qawwali Project has experienced a meteoric rise to prominence, captivating audiences through its unique combination of Sufi poetry, Indian Classical dance and orchestral arrangements.
Written and directed by critically acclaimed composer and arranger, Rushil Ranjan, the project features the soaring vocals of Abi Sampa in effortless combination with rich orchestral arrangements and powerful chants. All of these elements come together seamlessly to create a sound that is deeply universal and that truly encapsulates qawwali's original intention - to lead the listener to spiritual rapture.
