Inspired by Samuel Beckett's 'Waiting for Godot, experiences of isolation and looking to delve into themes of longing for connection, loneliness, loss and the search for meaning in our complex contemporary world.
Two characters enter a strange misty landscape, seemingly lost, and wish to find...something, another bodily presence perhaps. Yet they are not quite comfortable in their own bodies, a bit like being at a train station and suddenly all the systems crash, they are alone, stranded in purgatory. Gradually they must come to terms with their situation and try to communicate, confused as they are, with words and gestures, to find out why they are here.
An atmospheric soundtrack is provided by experienced musician Tomas Broda which swirls between levity and eeriness with his selection of live and electronic sounds, as two hopelessly hopeful vagabonds stagger, trip and wrestle around the space.
Expressed primarily through movement, dance, in contact partnering, and a series of physical-emotional scores.
We examine the question of the self and the other. Theorising and practically pondering our relative distances and nearness. Contemplating our need for help, interdependency, care for others, and a need for care for our inner and outer worlds.
