Gretchen wakes up one day in a cold, dark place, greeted by the voice of a figure named Mephistopheles.Gretchen realizes she's in hell.Gretchen realizes she has mistakenly been sent to hell in the place of her future lover, Heinrich Faust.And so Gretchen decides she's not interested in anyone deciding her fate, be they men, devils, or gods.Fester is the story of Faust's Gretchen, who learns that she's fated to be just another puppet in a game of heaven and hell - and forcibly takes her life back into her own hands. Devised by a majority-female & nb ensemble, fester uses Goethe's classic play as a springboard to examine what it means for marginalized identities to fight back and reject the paths set before us, through a mix of adaptation and physical theatre.
