Mulch Productions returns to Camden People’s Theatre with their genre-defying, pitch-black tragicomedy based on the true story of a woman: very much alive, declared legally dead.
In 2016, when a woman experiences a series of unexplained inconveniences - a rejected passport application, cheques that keep bouncing, her attempts to fill her prescriptions being denied - she shakes it off as a strange coincidence, a wrinkle that will soon be ironed out. It is only when a letter arrives at her house, addressed to her husband, declaring her deceased that she realises something is seriously wrong. Dead and Kicking tells the unbelievable true story of a person on an absurd mission to prove something that should be painfully obvious: she is very much alive.
Greedily burning through theatrical styles and genres, we use verbatim text, original music, dance and clowning to delve into this puzzling story and ask: can you really exist if the system thinks you’re dead?
