In the past 10 years, 90% of musical writers have been men (The Stage, 2017) - and yet, there has been an explosion of female talent in the British new writing scene. Hosted by songwriting team Barlow & Smith, this concert celebrates female songwriters past and present, for an evening of fun and brilliant music. This event is a fundraiser for a new programme currently in development with London Playwrights' Workshop, which will support female songwriters at different levels of their careers. They will be joined by eight accomplished songwriters including:
Rebecca Applin (Cameron Mackintosh Resident Composer 2017, 2 x BAFTA nominated)
Bella Barlow (Dream Queen Cabaret with Janie Dee at Globe Theatre)
Izo Fitzroy (Skyline album - gospel/blues)
Rosabella Gregory (City Stories - Brits Off Broadway Festival NYC)
Kate Marlais (Cameron Mackintosh Resident Composer 2018 at Lyric Hammersmith)
Maimuna Memon (Electrolyte; as performer - Mary Magdalene in Jesus Christ Superstar at Regent's Park, Lazarus)
Zara Nunn (PRS For Music Foundation Award Winner, In Versions)
Susannah Pearse (Jabberwocky with YMT)
A.C. Smith (Lock and Key at VAULT Festival)
Alex Young (Winner of S&S Award 2015; as performer - Young Sally in Follies at National Theatre)
They will also be joined by special guest Caroline Sheen (Mary Poppins, Helen Hayes Award).
Show at 8.30pm, Doors 6.30pm
All profits will go to support the Women's Musical Theatre Initative.
