Kwame Kwei-Armah has both written and will direct the world premiere of Let There be Love running at the Tricycle Theatre from January 17 – February 16, 2008.  Starring Joseph Marcell, Let There be Love is an immigrant's tale of beginnings, endings and Britishness set against the music of Nat King Cole.  Further casting will be announced shortly.

"
When West Indian pensioner Alfred Morris is kicked out of his daughter's Croydon house he returns to his Willesden home to find he's been gifted a 'Polish cleaner/home help'. Eager to learn the ways of her new land, the cantankerous and xenophobic Alfred realises that he may indeed still have a role in life: he could teach Maria to be British – and if he succeeds, maybe she might help him in the most unexpected way!" explain press notes.

Joseph Marcell was part of the Tricycle's 2006 African American season appearing on stage in Walk Hard Talk Loud and Gem of the Ocean.  Other recent stage credits include Coriolanus and Under the Black Flag at the Globe and numerous productions for the RSC including Crates and Barrels, Our Friends from the North and The Brothers Menechimi.  His screen credits include Rough Crossing, Eastenders, Jericho and The Professionals IV.

Kwame Kwei-Armah is a member of the Tricycle's Bloomberg writers group and in 2003 he won the Evening Standard Award for most promising playwright.  His play Elmina's Kitchen was nominated for an Olivier award and transferred from The National Theatre to the West End. In 2004 his play Fix-Up was premiered at the National Theatre and this autumn his play Statement of Regret will also open there.  He was a finalist in Celebrity Fame Academy and a regular in Casualty.

Performances are January 17 – February 16, 2008: Monday – Saturday at 8PM, Saturday matinee at 4PM.

The Tricycle Theatre is located at 269 Kilburn High Road, London NW6 7JR.
