OAP Theatre blogger West End Wilma has teamed up with Auburn Jam Music and West End Performer Kieran Brown (Phantom of the Opera) to release a specially written, tongue in cheek song about what it's like to be nominated for an award.
This is the third year that Kieran Brown has written a comedic parody about the Wilma Awards and performed it at the ceremony. In 2014 he wrote 'Heva's Lament' (based on the Spamalot song Diva's Lament) and last year performed a melody of Gypsy classics with new lyrics.
For 2016, West End Wilma has teamed up with the National Autistic Society to record this years song 'No Awards For You', based on the Blood Brothers classic song 'Tell Me It's Not True'. The song is Kieran's tongue in cheek look at what it is like to be nominated for an award (this year he his up for Best Understudy for his role in The Phantom of the Opera, alongside Ria Jones for Sunset Boulevard and Natasha Barnes for Funny Girl).
West End Wilma is an advocate for making theatre accessible to all people. On why she has chosen to support the National Autistic Society she said:
"I worry what would happen I suddenly contracted a condition like Tourettes (which can happen at any time in life). I couldn't attend regular theatre performances as I wouldn't be able to guarantee I would not be a distraction to other audience members. I would be limited to only attending special performances of theatre shows, like the ones the National Autistic Society strive to put on for people with Autism or a condition which means they may not feel comfortable around regular theatregoers. This is a scary thought as there are nowhere near enough Relaxed Performances going on right now"
100% of the proceeds from this single will go to the National Autistic Society to help stage more Relaxed Performances of Theatre Shows, helping to make theatre more accessible to all.
Wilma said: "I would love to get to a place where all theatre productions have at least one Relaxed Performance scheduled in their run so that ALL theatre is accessible to ALL people."
NO AWARDS FOR YOU is available now for digital download and will receive its premiere performance at the Wilma Awards Ceremony on the same day at the Hippodrome Casino. There are two version of the song available. A 'radio friendly' version and a more tongue in cheek version with a lot of bleeps!
