The Tragedy of King Richard II is currently being broadcast live to cinemas from the Almeida Theatre in London as part of National Theatre Live. See an exclusive clip from the film below!

King Richard II is arrogant, reckless and vain. His weak leadership sends his kingdom into disarray and his court into uproar. Disinherited and exiled from the kingdom, the ambitious Bolingbroke challenges the throne and the king's divine right to rule.

BAFTA and Olivier Award winner Simon Russell Beale plays King Richard II in this new production about the limits of power, directed by Joe Hill-Gibbins (Little Revolution, Absolute Hell).

National Theatre Live captures live performances from the UK and broadcasts them in more than 2,500 movie theatres and other venues in 60 countries worldwide. As of February 2017, the global audience reached almost 8 million people.

National Theatre Live is the closest thing audiences have to experiencing the feeling of actually sitting in the theatre. Broadcasts retain the feeling of a live performance and though each broadcast is filmed in front of a live audience in the theatre, cameras are carefully positioned throughout the auditorium to ensure that cinema audiences get the 'best seat in the house.'
