The Weinstein Company's inspiring biopic ONE CHANCE chronicles British tenor Paul Potts' rise to stardom via the television program Britain's Got Talent in 2007. Directed by David Frankel (The Devil Wears Prada), the film stars Tony winner James Corden (One Man, Two Guvnors) in the lead. ONE CHANCE will debut at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 9 and 10. Check out the trailer below!
In ONE CHANCE, one of four children born to a bus driver and a supermarket cashier, Paul (Corden) grows up in Bristol listening to his parents' opera records and discovering his vocal gift by singing in local choirs. He is also ruthlessly bullied, a devastating blow to his self-confidence alleviated only by his love of song.
But song wasn't paying the bills, so Paul works as a mobile-phone salesman while performing in an amateur opera company. Then Paul meets Julie-Ann (Alexandra Roach) on the internet. After a tentative courtship, the two fall deeply in love. The tale of how Paul goes from unfulfilled everyman to media sensation is a testament to the human spirit and one of the most engaging true stories of our time.
Corden will next appear in Rob Marshall's screen adaptation of Stephen Sondheim's musical Into the Woods. Past film credits include The Three Musketeers, Gulliver's Travels, Heroes and Villains, The History Boys, All or Nothing, and the TV series Gavin & Stacey, Horne & Corden, Teachers and Boyz Unlimited. In 2011 Corden starred in The National Theatre's One Man, Two Guvnors, which transferred to Broadway. The actor won the 2012 Tony Award for Best Actor in a Play.Videos
