Yesterday, Heathers the Musical had its press launch at The Other Palace. The show, which runs this summer from 9 June to 4 August, is a newly revised and updated version of the 2014 Off-Broadway musical.

At the acoustic gig, they previewed three songs from the show, featuring cast members Carrie Hope Fletcher, Jamie Muscato, Jodie Steele and more.

Heathers is based on the 1988 cult film, starring Winona Ryder and Christian Slater, about a vicious high school clique called the Heathers, rebellious Veronica Sawyer, and her dangerous love interest JD. The musical is written by Lawrence O'Keefe and Kevin Murphy, and Andy Fickman returns to direct.

At the event, Fickman introduced each of the three songs and gave some context from the show. He teased the changes to the score and book of the show that make this upcoming run the world premiere of a new version of Heathers. He also revealed that the original Heather McNamara from the film, Lisanne Falk, was in the audience.

First, the Heathers themselves took to the stage for a stunning version of "Candy Store". Jodie Steele plays Heather Chandler, Sophie Isaacs is Heather McNamara, and T'Shan Williams is Heather Duke. Even without costumes and choreography, it's clear that they're a formidable trio.

Next, Carrie Hope Fletcher and Jamie Muscato sang one of Veronica and JD's moving duets, "Seventeen". Finally, the event finished with an ensemble performance of "Shine a Light", led by Rebecca Locke, who plays Ms. Fleming.

While it would have been great to get a peek at one of the new songs, the three songs they showcased gave a great idea of what Heathers is like and certainly assured everyone in the audience that the show is in capable hands. How very!
