The Rose Theatre is delighted to announce its first home-grown production of 2011: William Shakespeare's As You Like It, directed by Stephen Unwin, in association with Kingston University. The production will run from 18 February - 26 March 2011.
As You Like It follows 2010's internationally acclaimed production of A Midsummer Night's Dream with Judi Dench and Noël Coward's Hay Fever directed by Stephen Unwin, starring Celia Imrie.
Stephen Unwin, Artistic Director said "I'm thrilled to direct As You Like It, a tale of love and exile. This will be my first production of Shakespeare at the Rose and I can't wait to get started".
The Rose auditorium is modelled on the original Elizabethan Rose Theatre, situated on London's Bankside; for As You Like It, the stage will become the magical Forest of Arden. The Rose's unique design incorporates a pit area where the audience can sit on cushions for only £8.
Stephen Unwin is Artistic Director of the Rose. His recent productions include Hay Fever, Miss Julie, A Christmas Carol and The Winslow Boy. Stephen foundEd English Touring Theatre in 1993 and directed almost thirty productions of new and classical work for the company both on tour and in the West End. In 2003, Stephen won the Sam Wanamaker Shakespeare's Globe Award with ETT. Stephen has written a number of books on the theatre including A Pocket Guide to Shakespeare's Plays with Kenneth McLeish.
