The award-winning musical Urinetown, The Musical plays at the Bridewell Theatre from 21 November to 1 December in a new production staged by Sedos, the City of London's premier amateur theatre company.
Urinetown is a hilarious send-up of greed, love, revolution (and musicals!), in a time when water is worth its weight in gold. The original Broadway production was nominated for ten Tony Awards and won three - Best Original Score, Best Book of a Musical and Best Direction of a Musical.
Ryan Macaulay, Musical Director of Sedos' production, said: "Urinetown is a hilarious show full of fantastic musical numbers which have been great fun to work on in the rehearsal room."
The show takes us to the not-so-distant future, when a terrible water shortage has led to a government-enforced ban on private toilets. The citizens must use public amenities, regulated by Urine Good Company, a single malevolent company that profits by charging admission for one of humanity's most basic needs.
With a brutal police force maintaining law and order, it's not a place to get caught short! Risk it and you will be sent off to a place of no return - the infamous Urinetown. The city needs a revolution and every revolution needs a hero... however unlikely they may be.
Director Yojiro Ichikawa, who returns to work with Sedos for a second time after directing Ordinary Days last year, said: "It has been an enjoyable challenge to bring the satire and humour to life while staying true to the serious underlying message that this musical delivers."
