Today's Times has a feature on the UK opening of Hair, talking to stars Gavin Creel and Will Swenson.

The actors discuss their views on the politics that gave rise to the musical's creation, and why it still resonates today, with Creel concluding: "The big difference between then and now is that today there is no draft. If there were, you might see similar protests. I don't know."

Mackintosh calls the show "timeless enough to be timely", adding, "[Vietnam] was the first time the country questioned what it was doing, and on a massive scale, the first time there was this terrible sense of being in a quagmire, of doing something terrible that they shouldn't be doing. That fact will continue to weigh heavily on (the conflicts in) Iraq and Afghanistan. People know instantly what the penalities are. In this world there can be no hiding behind the statistics any more."
